So, I'm in the midst of some serious job fatigue. I can't focus, I'm just fucking over it. Unfortunately, I'm feeding 4 mouths on this paycheck, and this is literally the only thing I know how to do well (no college, been working this same industry since high school). Changing careers is not an option. I've got a great job with a great employer who pays me, frankly, more than I'm worth at the moment.

Have any of y'all had to work thru some burnout? What did you do?

For your troubles, here's a video of someone who successfully worked thru some Focus and burnout issues:

Find one aspect of the job, that affects someone, does your job make someone's job better? I often found the only way to keep my sanity in retail sales was to come up with games to make my sales more fun.

I get burnout a lot. Possibly not for the same reasons. I get very bored. Not bored as in lazy, just mentally bored. I do really good work on the hard stuff. But when it comes to the easy, or stuff not that interesting, I could not give any less effort.

Tl:dr burnout at work. Stuff too easy most of the time.

Should've warned that the focus was RWD! I was sitting there scratching my head thinking my eyes were messed up for a second.

As for your question - I go through cycles like that. My job can be super intense and exciting when things are busy, and then super mellow for a bit. It's really tough to get stuff done when it's not an intense period - little supervision, not much of a timeline/goal...I just get bored.

One thing I've noticed that helps is to start the day by starting a project - before you get distracted by anything else. And tackle small projects to start with - it's tough to take on something complex when you're not motivated - just the smallest work that needs to get done - start with that. It can be some kind of housekeeping/filing/arranging your documents/tools/whatever - get moving with something and usually other work will start flowing off that and feel more natural to take on.

yea i'll let you know how it turns out. life's a bitch. I have 4 mouths to feed (5 cuz sometimes i eat for two) I went to college and I use every dollar of that paycheck. I have an interview friday but its looking like it would just be a change of scenery and not really much of a move forward. What do you do for work?
